大鯢(拉丁學名:Andrias davidianus)是隱腮鯢科，屬于尾兩棲動物。《山海經》記載大鯢“其狀如魚，四足、其音如嬰兒”，因而又名娃娃魚。中國大鯢是現存兩棲類中體型最大的一種，口大，軀扁而粗壯，尾短而側扁，四肢很短。那么大鯢真的會像嬰兒般啼哭嗎？對大鯢的研究發現它是沒有聲帶，不能發出明亮的聲音，人們聽到的聲音可能是大鯢吞咽食物或吐泡泡時候發出的。
Chinese Giant Salamander (Scientific Latin Name: Andrias davidianus) is a batrachian of thefamily Cryptobranchidae. The Classic of Mountains and Rivers recorded that “It looks like a fish, with four legs, and its sound seems like a baby”, also known as a salamander. It is one of the largest living amphibians with a large mouth, flat and stout body, short tail, and very short limbs, flat on both sides. So do Chinese giant salamanders really cry like babies?Studies of the salamander have found that it has no vocal cords and can’t produce bright sounds. The sounds heard may be made when the salamander swallows food or bubbles.
